  Pepino Melons
This beautiful fruit, with its smooth golden skin heavily streaked with purple, is sometimes called a "tree melon". Native to Peru, the PEPINO is a relative of the tomato, potato and eggplant family (Solanacae), but looks rather like a melon. The pale yellow flesh is quite tart, with a flavor suggestive of lemon, pineapple and melon. The seet seeds of this fruit are edible. Pepinos can be peeled and eaten raw, but they are best poached with sugar or honey to counteract their acidity. Serve the fruit like melon, add pepino cubes to fruit salad or serve with vanilla ice cream.
